THE ART OF DRIFTIN WEIGHT

keep it up

spittin n grittin

as if to never yawn

so the heart

can explode into a million

roman candles

burnin all round her name

in a magnificent glow

madly in love,

despite how strangely this poem

washed out of me

like a piece of driftwood

to fill a little dead space.

CHEWIN THE CUD OF ANXIETY

an intovert

with an eye patch

coverin one,

fiercely alone while extroverts

chit-chat mundane things.

gotta write a poem,

and think rejection

in the same manner

when wantin a lady

and stew over it

as if this is a datin service

and ruminate in it

like my brain is smokin

and still be scared like shit

drawin myself outta this shell,

cause it’s so exhaustin

in real life to hardly talk

at the first site of a woman

that makes my eye

work extra hard

in all its loneliness.

IMPORTIN THE MAPLE SYRUP

there is no

ra ra like a cheerleader

sittin on my shoulders,

but on this day,

sure could use a little

of her art

sendin them die hard signals

like a video sneak peak

in that two of us

is better than one

creatin them no limits

in whatever we wanna do

is so like marmalade

when she turns me

wild eyed in her butter

with a smile so like maple syrup.

GETTIN OUT OF A JAM

poetry is like a little dreamin

tryin to squeeze

the last drop

out of a life non existin

and start a new drippin

with a another pen

where there are no limits

in natural bridges

to whisper goodbyes

to old shadows

like some kind of trick

it didn’t exist

as her life colored my walls

when she walked in

lookin so beautiful

teachin true expression

is more than just

an old fashion country teasin.

OUT BEHIND THE SHED

when it comes

to gettin a little soothin

with a little shine

is most definitely

one thing a man

never gets old of

headin down a dirt road

behind the shed on the farm man

singin its different round here

with no changin lanes

focusin on feel like talkin

in all the little things,

cause a country man

will give the shirt off his back

when she comes around

from south of the mason dixon line.

MELTIN UNDER THE SKY

the stars out tonight

look like country hot spots

after a blue sky fallen naked

beneath the moonlight.

cause tonight on a friday night

at the rustic pavillion,

there we were feelin

the country music

touchin up the stars

sparkin a little pitter patterin

inside a once a upon a time

in about time start shinin this night.

cause her eyes

were like timeless wine

under the midnight shade

leavin us both hummin along

with her sweet northern hip moves.

can’t help but let her

take me in with her sensual rhythm

to gettin me in a northern meltin.

DYIN TO GET ME IN THE CLEAR BLUE

every things changin

‘cept a bar of soap

washin the dirt

outta my hands

like muddy things in life

somehow teachin

all bad things eventually

lead to the drain.

it’s like mother nature

in the cleansin feels,

cause everythin in her rains

can show growth.

it’s just like when she looks in your eyes,

and says, strong men get stronger

when they turn ugly stones into believin

that anythin from nothin

never comes when ya

give yourself away,

cause baby, you’re heart

is somethin like somethin

and needs to get to the clear blue.

GETS COOL TO THE OTHER SIDE

i made a livin

out of wantin something more.

that’s how it goes

when the feels

shut ya outta the door.

the things i thought

that were way beyond me,

was like everythin

taken wrong turns

down all those tracks

of blacktop miseries.

now i’m listenin to the dreamin

in the catchin n the snatchin

leavin the perceivin,

make like windows steamin

in this parkin lot

outside the theatre

in the sunset

of my catchin on fire song.

SONG OF LIVIN FOR THIS

it’s a reach

to get to the deepest

part of anythin –

the bottom of a hill;

the bottom of a page,

never thought a country song

gettin to inner depths

inside the workin factory

chasin them better days,

cause pussyfootin in hard times

around them cold rains,

is like a little gas

barely gettin me by,

but a little sugar in the tank

can get me a long way

in hookin that sugar honey,

cause these bones

coyote howlin in a full moon runnin

by the waters spring

with a little shimmer

dancin upon every little ripple

left forever crazy

in too deep,

believin its all about changes

feelin like somebody

that couldn’t let go,

in i’ll be just fine

discoverin every little thing

like a mountain man

in every bottoms up imaginable.
